Because We Love You Funke Akindele, Don’t Be A JJC (Read Letter To Funke Akindele)

Ordinarily, I mind my business, I always do. However, for Funke Akindele (Never met her personally) and people that I feel connected to, I just can’t sit still and watch things go away.

I admire Funke’s courage, zeal and other strengths that has made her my superstar and role model. Like every mortal, naturally, she has her weaknesses. From my distance vantage view, it pains me that this toughie is weak and extremely so, when it comes to matters of the heart.

Country to form interim government that includes opposition members.

Congo to form interim government that includes opposition members
Diplomats and observers fear the crisis could trigger a repeat of civil wars that killed millions of people between 1996 and 2003.
Democratic Republic of Congo will form an interim government that includes opposition members, as part of a deal to set up new elections and break a political impasse, Justice Minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba said.
The announcement came after backers of President Joseph Kabila and some opposition members agreed on Wednesday on the timing of those elections, a question that has caused more than a year of debate and led to violent protests and arrests.
However, most major opposition parties are boycotting the talks. They see them as part of Kabila's plan to justify staying in power beyond the end of his mandate in December, when he is due to step down under the constitution.
"The government will be redone. We will put in place a government that we will co-manage between the presidential majority, the opposition and civil society," said Mwamba, who is representing Kabila's political supporters in the talks.
It was unclear which opposition members would become part of the new government.
Opposition leaders this week walked out of talks on the timing of the presidential election. The vote had been set for November, but the authorities now say it cannot be held before next July.
The opposition had insisted the presidential election should be held next. The government said local elections should come first, which would probably delay the presidential vote further.
The government and a group of opposition parties agreed on Wednesday the presidential vote would be combined with legislative and provincial elections, although no specific dates were set. Local elections will come later.
"This opens the way to a calendar that will mention the exact date of the handover of power between the old president of the republic ... and the newly elected president," said Vital Kamerhe, one of the leading negotiators for the opposition.
Despite the apparent advance in the negotiations, efforts to broker a peaceful exit from power for Kabila, who has led Africa's leading copper producer since the assassination of his father in 2001, remain fragile.
Congo has never experienced a non-violent transition of power since independence from Belgium in 1960.
Diplomats and observers fear the crisis could trigger a repeat of civil wars that killed millions of people between 1996 and 2003.

"In the absence of one, I opened a new folder for her; I requested she come to the couch for examination only for her to be squatting.

UNILORIN Speaks On Born Again Student Who Withdrew From School Over Religious Belief.

ilorins

Authorities of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State on Sunday said that they had accepted the voluntary withdrawal of a student, Jephtaph Abolarin, from the institution.

Abolarin, a 300-Level Sociology student, had written to the university confessing to cheating during his West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Abolarin, who claimed he had become a ‘born again’ Christian, said continuing his university education, using an unmerited certificate was unjust and immoral.

He wrote the letter to the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Sidiqat Ijaiya, on August 5, 2016.

According to him, he wanted to withdraw from the school because he got his WASSCE through examination malpractice.

ilorins1

Reacting to the letter on Sunday, the university Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed the withdrawal of the student.

Akogun, who noted that the Senate of the university had accepted the withdrawal letter, added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, commended Abolarin for his repentance and sincerity.
The VC, Akogun added, wished Abolarin well in his future endeavour.

Part of Abolarin’s letter to the DVC read,

“Just as a house that was built on a faulty foundation will surely collapse, it is also certain that a career that is built on a faulty foundation will definitely collapse. All through my secondary school days, I was just a church ‘goer’, without genuine salvation and the fear of God. As a result, I got my WASSCE result through examination malpractice.
“By the grace of God, now, I have encountered the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which called for repentance and restitution.
“Sir, with deep conviction, I have realised that there is no point building my academic career on a faulty foundation; since the WASSCE result I got through malpractice is the basis in which my admission into this university was anchored.
“Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from the university and start all over again.”

Nigerians Eat Too Much Rice, That’s Why It Is Expensive – Minister of Agriculture.

1audu-ogbeh

he Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on Wednesday in Abuja said Nigerian businessmen demanded 2.5 billion dollars (about N492 billion) a week for importation of goods and services into the country.

Ogbeh made this known in a meeting with officials of VICAMPRO, an indigenous Agro Company investing in production of Irish Potato on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the ministry was willing to support local investors with capacity to produce goods and save the country’s foreign exchange.

He said that the consumption of rice in the country was rising and that a lot of people were not aware that the rice had some degree of arsenic.

The minister said that consuming rice in large quantity on a regular basis was a bit of health risk, adding that substituting it with potato would be welcomed development. “The volume of importation of virtually everything into this country is too much.

“The demand for dollars in this country as at today is 2.5 billion a week; this is the quantum of dollars Nigerians are asking for to import things.
“Since 1986, we began this habit of importing everything and doing virtually nothing at home to sustain ourselves; now, we do not have the dollars and people are very hungry.
“This day was coming anyway, no matter who was in power; we have the most ridiculous method of devaluing our currency; every week, we auction the dollar and naira goes up.
“We sat and were hoping that by devaluation, we are going to arrive at Eldorado; if we continue like this, it will be a thousand naira to a dollar,’’ he said.

Na Waoo: See How Thief Falls Asleep In Pastor’s Room During Robbery.

752741248_790632

A suspected robber has been arrested by the Police in Asamankese in the Eastern region after he was caught sleeping in the bedroom of an SDA Pastor.

The 27-year-old suspect, was found half naked and deeply asleep on the bed of Pastor Asare Nyarko having broken into the room through the ceiling to steal properties of the Pastor. Narrating the incident to Starr News’ Eastern regional Correspondent Kojo Ansah, Mr. Nyarko explained that, the incident occurred Sunday morning after he and his family had left for Church.

According to him, upon their return home, they realized all the outside lights in the house had been put off. They also noticed someone had forcefully entered the house and quickly rushed to the Police Station to lodge a report.

The Police, however, failed to escort the couple home but advised them to take pictures of the burglar for evidence. Pastor Asare mentioned that upon a careful entry to their room with some Elders of the Church, they found the suspect deeply asleep in their bedroom.

“When we got closer we realized that the bulb that was in the corridor had been removed and the meter had also been closed, that told us that someone had entered the house.

“So we entered the house with caution, looked at the rooms – the first two were intact – so my wife was going to our bedroom and she saw somebody in our room. So all the Elders with myself opened the door and this guy was fast asleep on my bed and not even the noise the seven of us made woke him up.

“We had to shake him before he woke up so [we arrested him] and sent him to the police station.” The suspect had apparently returned to the house after a successful first operation but unfortunately slept off during his second attempt.

The suspect, during interrogation told the Police that after the first entry when he took away some properties, he went to smoke marijuana to gain energy to climb through the ceiling but was dazed and fell asleep in the process.

‘Why I Will Not Serve In Buhari’s Govt’ – Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

ngozi

Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was a guest on Al-Jazeera ‎where she was asked if she would be open to take position in the current administration and also to comment on the current state of the economy. Responding, Okonjo-Iweala said

“One of the things you learn as you get wiser is to talk less as you grow older. I have spent my time contributing to the country. It will be better to leave those managing the economy to do what they know how to do. There can be solutions.

I served my country for seven years and it was a great honor. The second time was very tough but it is still an honor. I am not the only person who is a repository of knowledge. There are other people who can equally try their hands in running the economy”she said

Asked how she fought corruption during her time in government, she said:

“It was a very tough fight, I must thank my team, you don’t do it alone, I had the support of an economic team in the Ministry of Finance. It was tough because at the end of the day you need to have some principles.”

READ President Buhari’s Powerful Eid El-Kabir Message To Nigerians.

1

– President Muhammadu Buhari sent a congratulatory message to Nigerians for the Eid-El-Kabir festival

– The president preached unity and urged the fostering of the Nigerian spirit

– He urged Muslims to live in peace with their Christian counterparts

Fellow Compatriots, as you celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir, I salute your steadfastness in spite of the difficult economic times the country is going through.

The lessons of the Eid are piety and sacrifice and, my dear brothers and sisters, you have exhibited these in equal measure.

The present recession is as a result of cumulative effects of worldwide economic downturn and failure in the past to plan and save for difficult times. It is impossible to separate the present from the past to appreciate the extent to which mistakes of the past are affecting everyday life today..

I assure you that this administration is working round the clock to remove the hardships the country is going through. Rail and road constructions, projects in the housing sector, support for farmers and for small and medium scale industries, youth and women’s empowerment programmes, support for revival of industries are all designed to reinvigorate the economy and enhance living standards of ordinary people.

We are getting security right. We are stopping corruption in its tracks and we will get the economy right by the Grace of God.

I enjoin Muslims to live by the dictates of Islam, to keep good relationships with their Christian brothers and sisters and as patriots to maintain the spirit of the Nigerian nation.

I wish everyone happy holidays.

Muhammadu Buhari

Governor of Ekiti state Ayodele Fayose distributed rams to Muslim faithfuls and urged them to pray for peace and unity of the country. He made this request after he monitored the distribution of rams to Muslim leaders at the Government House in Ado Ekiti Sunday. He said:

1

“We should live above board, we should live in line with what we preach, as Muslim brothers we are one and the same. We must equally pray for the Unity of Nigeria. It is not enough to say I am a Christian or I am a Muslim, we must live by reaching out to one another and equally putting one another under check when we are doing the wrong thing, nobody should be above the law. “In the circumstance that we have found ourselves, our nation is in challenging times, we should come out and support this nation so that Nigeria does not go down”.

“I do this because it’s part of the Cardinals of the Islamic religion and as a leader, the little I am able to do, I should be seen to be doing so. “I might not be able to buy ram for everybody, I can’t give ram to everyone but my people must still see the love in me trying my best to at least identify with everybody”.

“We Are In A Great Poverty” – Pensioners Tell Buhari.

President-Buhari

Pensioners have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari to save their souls from the pains of poverty following non-payment of their pension arrears which have accumulated for several months.

Making the cry yesterday in Calabar, President of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Dr Abel Afolayan while addressing journalists listed twelve areas where pensioners have been subjected to severe difficulties which need to be addressed urgently by the President to save the souls of members.

Dr Afolayan listed those areas to include non-compliance with constitutional provision by the yearly review of 5% pension, non harmonisation of old and new pensions, arbitrary deductions from pensions, non remittance of federal government counterpart funding into local government pension fund among others.

“Pension arrears have piled up over the years during the regimes of past administrations with ‘mountains of complaint” forms submitted by pensioners and inherited by Pension Transitional Arrangements Directorate which still lie unattended to for several years”.

The NUP President who was represented by Elder Tubonimi Sukuyep, the National Vice President South- South of the NUP said the government has not complied with the annual review of pension as stipulated by the Constitution. “1999 Constitution of Nigeria stipulates that pensions shall be reviewed every five years or together with any Federal Civil Service salary reviews whichever is earlier; the last pension review was in July 2010, the pensioners are therefore eagerly waiting for the implementation of the review in compliance with the Constitution”.

The pensioners President also complained of arbitrary deductions from stipends of members which is negatively impacting on their welfare because their finances are being severely affected. “We do not pay tax, as pension is tax free therefore our rightful entitlement should be 53.4% but as at now only 33% approved for our members are in arrears of thirty months”.

They also complained of non-payment of death benefits to next of kins of deceased pensioners which is subjecting the families of deceased pensioners to unnecessary difficulties and hardships. “We would humbly like to plead that death benefits of deceased pensioners should be paid without any further delay”.

Bag Of Rice Reduces In Price As Cost Of Food Items Crash In Kano Market (See New Details)

Rice_sacks

The outrageously high price of rice has been reduced following the crash in market prices in Kano.

The prices of food items are now coming down following the arrival of new harvests at Kano markets.

According to Vanguard, a bag of rice now sells for N17,500 as against previous price of N19,000 and above.

A survey at some markets in the state revealed that prices of some grains have drastically reduced but rice, still experiencing high demand, remains costly but with slight drop in price.

A bag of maize is now selling for N10,000 as against N13, 000 it sold last month, while a measure cost N357, down from between N470 and N500 previously.

Price of a measure of millet has equally dropped from N360 to about N250. Checks revealed that the price of a bag of rice, which sold for N19,000, is now selling at N17,500 while a measure cost N700.

Some consumers, who spoke with newsmen, expressed optimism that the prices of food items would crash further before the year ends.

Malam Sani USman, a consumer, said that the current economic hardship would end when there is massive food production. He said that when people don’t produce but consume more, “there is bound to be food shortage and the economy will become weak’’.

Another customer, Ibrahim Asim, appealed to traders to desist from hoarding food in an attempt to make more gains.

Sokoto Withdraws 39 Students From Foreign Universities Who Were On Scholarships – See Shocking Reason.

SOKOTO-NL

Sokoto State Government has given approval for the transfer back home of its 39 students currently studying in various institutions in Dubai.
The state governor, Aminu Tambuwal who disclosed this on Friday when he received the report of the committee instituted to advise the government on the issue, said that the move is expected to save the state government over N500 million.
According to him, the government’s action signalled a change of priorities in the payment of scholarships to indigent students to study abroad. “The transfer or relocation of the students was necessitated by the need to conserve funds and apply same to more critical areas in the education sector.
Tambuwal stated that to pay N400 million for 39 students in Dubai was weighing heavily on the scarce resources of the state.
“As at the time we sent the children to Dubai to study last year, the state government was spending over N400 million per annum to maintain them there.
”The last administration had good intentions when it sent them to Dubai to further their studies. But the current financial situation of the state can no longer allow us to continue with this burden.
“We explained to the parents and guardians of the students that as at today, Sokoto state government spends over N500 million to maintain 17,000 of its citizens on scholarship in various schools in Nigeria,” he stressed.
The governor, however, thanked the students and parents for their understanding, adding that arrangements had been concluded to ensure that none of the students missed a grade level upon their return home.

Former UNILAG Student Leader Allegedly Gets 2-Year Suspension For ‘Criticizing’ School Management.

LAG

A student of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Adeyeye Olorunfemi, has been suspended for four semesters for criticizing the management of the Yaba-based school.
Adeyeye, along with the rest of the UNILAG Student Union leadership, was suspended for participating in the peaceful student protests of April 6 and 8, 2016. Those protests led to the school being shut and the Student Union body being suspended indefinitely.
According to Adeyeye, he was only suspended for criticizing the school management and highlighting their inability to effectively manage the institution and student rights as “democrats”.
In an article published as a Facebook post, Adeyeye alleged that the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Rahman Bello, was unfit to run the institution, adding that the resources channeled into training Bello were a “waste”.
“Vice Chancellor sir!, you remain a first class Chemical engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.What has happened to the Great Ife in you!. Our power generation is deteriorating and you are alive . The Nation’s investment of knowledge on you to make you a scholar is a WASTE. Your first class honours degree is the true definition of a FIASCO,” Adeyeye said in the Facebook article.

He further went on to allege that the Senate and VC of UNILAG did not care about the welfare of the students before going on to mourn the death of a former lecturer and the youngest professor ever professor of Mechanical Engineering.

“Now,this is our own issue; Welfarism, we can’t find them. Are they telling me that the Name issue is greater than Welfarism. Is the aesthetics of a building more important than the structural stability? , If you don’t know, go ask the MD, Lekki Gardens,” Adeyeye said in the post.
“Are there no “common sense” persons in the management anymore? We mourn late Prof. Ayodele Awojobi freshly.”
The former UNILAG student leader has received a lot of praise and backlash on social media following the Facebook post and subsequent videos that emerged showing him sticking to his guns.
There has been no official word from the university management on Adeyeye’s fiery comments as at the time of writing this article.

Fulfil Your Promises, Nigerians Are Crying Of Hunger – Bishops Tells Buhari.

Buhari 2

The Pentecostal Bishops Forum, PBF, on Tuesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his campaign promises, stressing that Nigerians are in hunger because of the current economic recession.

Chairman of the forum, Archbishop John Praise made the call while addressing State House Correspondents after a closed-door meeting with the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Praise also advised the President to hire experts to help him in resuscitating the country’s ailing economy.

According to Praise, “We came from all over the north, we came to pay a courtesy call on the VP. We came to congratulate him and thank the government for their efforts so far since they came in about a year ago, especially in stamping out the Boko Haram menace and in ensuring security all over the nation.

“We came to also talk to him on the need for the nation to work together in unity, to move on in peace, the disturbing factor of the Fulani herdsmen, and to give our advice on how the government can foster unity, peace and progress.

“We are a united nation and nobody should be thinking individually but collectively of making Nigeria great. And, also, let the government know that, yes, we have agreed we are in recession, the people down there who we lead are suffering.

“There are cries all over the place and let the government do whatever it can to alleviate the sufferings.

“We thank God that the President promised he will look at the hunger Nigerians are going through and we do believe that because the President is a man of integrity, he will follow up on his words to ensure that the sufferings of Nigerian masses are reduced. If we have all the infrastructure working, things will work.

“Agreed, we are suffering from the effect of misrule of past leadership. All the same, we believe Nigeria is a great nation, and we can work together with our genuineness, our commitment and our intellectual intelligence to move this nation forward. And they should not be afraid to look for economic experts.

“They should not stop to get who can help in our economic recovery to ensure everything goes on well so that this country can bounce back as a great nation that we have always been. We want to ensure this country remains the great nation we have always dreamt and talked about.”

According to Praise, “We came from all over the north, we came to pay a courtesy call on the VP. Firms, NAFDAC clash over importation of killer tomato paste.

TOMATOES1

Indigenous tomato production firms and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Thursday traded blame over alleged rising importation of fake and substandard tomato paste into the country.

Among the firms were Erisco Food and Dangote Tomato Pastry. They pointedly accused NAFDAC of encouraging foreign firms to flood the Nigerian market with fake and substandard tomato paste.

China and India were two countries whose names featured prominently as the origin of such “fake, substandard and cancer-causing tomato paste” at a public hearing conducted by the Joint House of Representatives Committees on Healthcare Services, Drugs and Narcotics in Abuja.

However, many importers, including Nigerians and foreigners, thronged the venue of the hearing to deny the “claims” of Dangote and Erisco that they were conniving with NAFDAC to endanger the lives of Nigerians.

The session was jointly chaired by Mr. Chike Okafor and Mrs. Ukeria Azodo.

Leading the accusation against NAFDAC, the Chairman of Erisco Foods, Mr. Eric Umeafia, told the committee that unknown to Nigerians, NAFDAC of today was a compromised agency, which no longer enforced regulations.

He alleged that with the knowledge of NAFDAC, importers ordered fake tomato paste from India and China.

Umeafia stated that whenever a complaint over such “illegality” was lodged at NAFDAC, the agency replied by issuing threat letters to shut down the operations of local tomato production firms.

Umeafia, who called NAFDAC, a “cash and carry” regulator, added, “The biggest market in Nigeria today is NAFDAC. They encourage the importation of cancer-causing tomato paste from China and India.

“During the recent trip by President Muhammadu Buhari to China, this question was put to the Chinese on why they sent substandard goods to Nigeria and they blamed it on greedy government agencies.

“The Chinese will bluntly tell you that it is what you order that you get.”

Erisco’s Legal Adviser, Mr. Abdulrahman Kadiri, also quoted a 2015 report of NAFDAC after the agency conducted safety tests on 300 samples of tomato paste.

“NAFDAC, by its own report, admitted that 91.1 per cent of the samples failed the tests, meaning that they were not good for consumption.

“However, the question is why nothing has been done one year after to bring anybody to book? If we do not stop this trend, we don’t know how many Nigerians will die,” he added.

The Managing Director of Dangote Tomato Pastry, Mr. Abdulkarim Kaita, corroborated the claims of Erisco, alleging that some Chinese firms stored “expired” bulk tomato paste in their factories only to mix it with fresh ones for exportation to Nigeria.

He noted that in China, the Chinese did not eat the grade of tomato paste they exported to Nigeria.

“There are three categories of paste for the European market, the Asian market and the African market.

“The paste for the African market, which is the lowest in terms of quality, is further downgraded for the Nigerian market,” Kaila stated.

At the session, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, which was represented by Mr. Folorunsho Adeyemi, called for an outright “ban on the import of retail tomato packs.”

But, Prof. Samson Adebayo, who spoke for NAFDAC at the hearing, vehemently denied that the agency committed any of the infractions alleged by Dangote and Erisco.

Several local and foreign importers, including a group of 24 led by Mr. Ikenna Amaechi, dismissed the allegations as “misleading and lacking in substance.”

Adebayo explained that the test results in question were for samples taken from tomato paste in the Lagos area and not the entire country.

He said this was for the primary purpose of determining the quality of the paste, particularly the concentrates, and not over fears that the paste contained injurious substances.

“It was an internal document of NAFDAC; we did not find any injurious substances in the samples we tested,” he added.

The NAFDAC official advised the committee to caution the Erisco boss for making “unsubstantiated allegations capable of chasing foreign investors out of Nigeria.”

Speaking for the importers, Ameachi said the plan of Erisco and Dangote was to destroy the reputation of importers so that they could build a monopoly.

“We are aware of the intention. It is to de-market others, especially the importers, so that Erisco can become the monopoly in the area,” he said.
